Joint Conference of the Academy of Entrepreneurial Finance (Europe) and the Academy of Behavioral Finance & Economics [20.03.17]
From 15 to 17 March, the annual Joint Conference of the Academy of Entrepreneurial Finance (Europe) and the Academy of Behavioral Finance & Economics with 60 participants from more than 12 different countries took place at L-Bank, Stuttgart. The event was organized by the University of Hohenheim and co-hosted by the “Thematic Network Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Finance (INEF)”.On Wednesday evening, the attendants of the conference had the possibility to attend a Welcome reception at Stuttgart Stock Exchange. At the event, Dr. Ulli Spankowski of Stuttgart Financial introduced Stuttgart Stock Exchange and gave insights on the activities in the area of Entrepreneurship and Start-up Financing, which led to very engaging discussions with the attendants.
The conference continued on Thursday, 16 March 2017 with an official welcome by the conference chairs Tereza Tykvová from the University of Hohenheim and Patrick Roger from the University of Strasbourg. The participants presented papers on the general topic „Understanding Innovation, Entrepreneurial Ventures and Finance in Europe and the World“ in parallel sessions for Entrepreneurial Finance and for Behavioral Finance & Economics.
Additional keynote speeches by Dr. Harald Poth, investment manager at LBBW VENTURE CAPITAL GmbH and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Huber, Professor of Empirical Economics at the University of Innsbruck added interesting perspectives on the practical and theoretical perspectives in financing innovative ventures.
On Friday, 17 March 2017 the authors of the best paper in both categories received the „Best Paper Award“, sponsored by Sparkassen Finanzgruppe – Wissenschaftsförderung and presented by Tereza Tykvová and Patrick Roger. While the conference was characterized by a very high quality of papers and presentation, the Best Paper Award in Entrepreneurial Finance went to "The electoral cycle of government venture capital investments" by Fabio Bertoni (EMLYON Business School) and Anita Quas (EMLYON Business School). The Best Paper Award for Behavioral Finance went to "Surprise in Short Interest" by Pavel Lesnevski (University of Mannheim) and Esad Smajlbegovic (Erasmus University Rotterdam).
